A RESIDENT at a coronavirus-hit care home on Skye has died, it has been announced.

News of the death came shortly after the scale of the outbreak at the Home Farm care home, in Portree, was revealed this afternoon.

After word of the outbreak first emerged on Thursday, NHS Highland subsequently issued a media release confirming a "significant" number of staff and patients had been affected.

And HC One, which operates the site, this afternoon revealed that 29 of the home's 34 residents had contracted Covid-19 as well as 27 of the staff.

Confirming that one resident had died, the firm said its "thoughts and sympathies are with the family who has lost a loved one".

A mobile testing unit has been set-up on the island to help with efforts to track and trace people who may have come into contact with those affected.
