Registered coronavirus cases rise in Highlands while hospital patient numbers drop

FIVE more cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the Highlands, taking the region's total number of known cases to 225, new figures have shown.

Some 273 people have tested positive across the whole of Scotland since yesterday, taking the national total to 10,051.

And 1249 people have died across the country since the outbreak began, a rise of 18 on the same point yesterday.

In the Highlands, the number of people being treated in hospital with suspected or confirmed Covid-19 decreased from 52 to 50.

Elsewhere in the north, NHS Grampian recorded another 48 positive tests, for an overall tally of 748. Its hospitals were also treating 88 people in hospital for the disease, with nine receiving treatment in intensive care.
