Strathpeffer and District Rowing Club power on after Skiffie Worlds success with come and try sessions and regattas on horizon

BUOYANT after their success at the Skiffie Worlds in the Netherlands, a Ross-shire group has been busy sharing the joy with newcomers at come-and-try sessions and preparing for regattas closer to home.

Strathpeffer and District Rowing Club has established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the friendly world of skiff rowing.

The club took home bronze medals in the Women’s Open category with Hazel Inglis as cox and Nicola Williamson, Kylie Blandford, Anna Myeskhova and Sarah Nicholas as crew.

There were teams from Scotland, the Netherlands, USA, Canada, Ireland and England at the event.

The club was overall 18th place out of 34, with 18 points.

The club has since been busy with come-and-try sessions and many new members have been trying coastal rowing for the first time.

Following the success in the Worlds, the club added further medals at the Avoch Regatta recently where teams won silver medals in two of the women’s categories

The club has also been busy selecting teams to participate in the Orkney Coastal Rowing Regatta on August 20. And then its own regatta follows the weekend after at Storehouse of Foulis on August 27.

The Cromarty Regatta and a Loch Ness event are also being considered amongst others.
