VITAL efforts to replace toilet facilities at Gairloch's seafront and ensure the area's sands maintain key European Bathing Water standards will be highlighted at a special drop-in event tonight.

The European Bathing Water standards awards at the Gairloch and Sands beaches are reliant upon the beach having public toilet facilities.

"The old toilet building at the Gairloch Beach Car Park has been out of use for some years now and the mobile toilet, locally nicknamed ‘The Tardis’ is destined for Achmelvich," said a Gairloch Community Council spokesman.

"There are plans in the community to replace the old building and ‘the Tardis’ with a modern block with toilet and shower facilities but help to do this is needed! Many of [the public] signed support for the project in local petitions and on-line but active community help is needed."

And members of the community council and the Gairloch Area Development steering group will be at Gairloch Beach Car Park from 5pm to 7pm this evening to show the public the site, plans and artist's impressions for the replacement facilities.

"Please bring your enthusiasm and support... to look at the project as far as it has gone. We look forward to seeing you there," added the spokesman.
