Prince Andrew is no longer the honorary president of Inverness Golf Club.

The prince, who holds the title of Earl of Inverness, has also ended his 30-year association with the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.

It comes as he faces a US civil action over sexual assault allegations – claims he has consistently denied.

The prince's military titles and royal patronages have already been returned to the Queen.

Ewan Forbes, who is secretary/manager of Inverness Golf Club, said the palace had now confirmed he would no long hold the title of the golf club's honorary president.

Mr Forbes said there had been no feedback from members since they were informed last week of the decision.

Prince Andrew opened the club house in 1998.

There have been growing calls for the title of Earl of Inverness – which he has held since 1986 following his marriage to Sarah Ferguson – to be taken away from the prince

In a recent online poll of Inverness Courier readers, 91 per cent of those who voted said he should lose the title.
