Tain Royal Academy (TRA) has received recognition for a culture of respect among students and teachers with the Silver Award for Rights Respecting Schools from UNICEF UK.

The award is a testament to the hard work of the school's staff and pupils, and the dedication of head teacher Mr Mark Jones in promoting a culture of respect and understanding among his students.

The award is granted by UNICEF UK, is given to schools that have shown commitment to promoting and protecting children's rights, including promoting awareness of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The judging panel was impressed by TRA students who have worked hard to raise awareness of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly Lewis Mitchell, Kyle Corbett, Morven Thomson, Minnie Nicolson, Jasmine Morrish and Viktoria Korol who all spoke about the importance of these rights.

The school's social subjects department and parent representatives also met with the judging panel to describe the range of activities developed to promote understanding of children's rights. These include lessons on the importance of respect, tolerance and inclusion, gender equality and mental health.

TRA headteacher Mark Jones was delighted with the award, which he sees as recognition for the school's dedication to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for all students.

He said: "We are thrilled to have been awarded the Silver Award for Rights Respecting Schools. This is a testament to the hard work of our staff and students, and to our commitment to promoting children's rights in everything we do.We will continue to work hard to ensure that our students feel valued and respected, and that they are aware of the rights that are theirs by law."

The Silver Award is a significant achievement for Tain Royal Academy, and a reminder of the responsibility that schools have in shaping the attitudes and values of the next generation.
