THE threat to stab a pregnant woman during an altercation in Alness led to the dock for a 32-year-old who admitted threatening behaviour.

Sentence had previously been deferred on Sherrie Stirling who this week learned her punishment.

The court heard Stirling, who it was said was "under the influence of something", approached a man and threatened to stab him.

She then uttered threats to "stick a knife" into the woman and struggled with her.

Defence solicitor Graham Mann said: "Her mother who is frail was badly assaulted and this was something of retaliation for it."

Stirling, of Benula Road, Inverness, was ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work.

She was also placed under two years of social work supervision after Sheriff Sara Matheson heard Stirling was addressing her drugs issues and trying to stay out of trouble.

Sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court had previously been deferred.

Stirling admitted threatening or abusive behaviour in Milnafua, Alness on May 27, 2018.
