POWER: Further unplanned outages across the Highlands as SSEN work to restore power in midst of Storm Babet

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) engineers are continuing to work on a series of unplanned outages across the Highlands as the effects of Storm Babet are being felt.

The outages came after the start of Storm Babet, with yellow warnings now in place across the north for gales and wind gusts of up to 80mph expected to sweep across the north and north-east.

Earlier reported outages in the West Highlands are ongoing, with power expected to be restored in most areas by this evening.

South of Inverness, homes and businesses in the IV2 5XQ postcode near Daviot have been affected by an unplanned outage reported at 1.11pm.

In postcode area IV4 7NB, just south of Cannich by Loch Affric, another outage was reported at 12.20pm.

A loss of electric supply has also been reported as of 2.07pm, affecting customers in postcode area IV2 6UA near Tullich.

SSEN says it awaiting an update from engineers on the progress of each of the above faults.

People in the IV13 7YP postcode area just north of Tomatin have also reported a loss of electricity.

This fault, which was reported at 2.22pm is expected to be resolved by 6.05pm.

Engineers are believed to still be on site attending to a fault affecting 42 different postcodes near Assynt reported last night. SSEN say that power should have been restored by midday, with no further updates at present.

Postcodes in Sutherland – IV27 4HW and IV27 4TL are also being affected by an outage first reported at 7.33am. SSEN estimated that power will be restored by 4.30pm.

In Easter Ross, some properties in postcode areas IV6 7TL and IV6 7TN, west of Muir of Ord, are currently without supply due to an unplanned outage reported at 12.37pm. SSEN have said that service should be restored by 4.30pm.

A Wester Ross outage reported at 10.55am on postcodes IV22 2EZ, IV22 2HA, IV22 2HB, IV22 2HD, IV22 2HE and IV22 2PA is still said to be affecting at least 136 homes in the area, with an estimated restoration time of 6pm this evening.

An earlier fault near Loch Maree affecting 25 homes in postcodes IV21 2AL, IV22 2HJ, IV22 2HL, IV22 2HP, IV22 2HW and IV22 2PD is expected to be resolved by 4pm.
