ENGINEERS are this morning battling to restore power to properties across Ross-shire affected by overnight outages.

There had been an earlier Met Office weather warning for high winds extending from Sunday evening into today.

Also affected are a number of IV18 and IV20 postcodes in the Alness, Invergordon, Tain and Easter Ross areas.

SSEN says it hopes to restore power this morning to properties still affected there.

In the affected IV7 and IV8 areas around the Black Isle, the estimated reconnection time for some is later at around 2pm. A number of areas of Wester Ross are also affected by outages in the sprawling IV21, IV22 and IV23 postcode areas which include Gairloch and Badachro.

Outages there were reported after midnight and SSEN says it is hoped to restore power by noon.

A number of areas of Sutherland have also been hit.

The weather warning for wind runs until noon today.

Highland Council reports a number of schools affected by weather-related problems.

Bualnaluib Primary, Gairloch Primary, Gairloch High and Poolewe Primary are all closed today, according to the local authority. Highland Council has a school closure list which is updated every morning and can be found here.

ScotRail has confirmed services have been hit by the weather too with the route between Kyle of Lochalsh and Inverness and the Far North line amongst those affected.

Bus services are being drafted in to cover in some areas.
