Some communities in Easter Ross were without power this lunchtime after electricity supplies were interrupted.

A fault on the network sparked a power cut at 11.24am which affected a number of communities dotted along a north-south corridor between Nigg, Loch Eye and the Inver Channel.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said around 135 properties had been affected .

It said engineers were on route at the time of writing, and added that they hoped to restore power by 2.30pm - although that time could change depending on how the repairs progress once work begins.

Confirming the outage, a spokesperson for SSEN said: "We're very sorry for the power cut and are aware of a fault on our main network.

"This is affecting a large area and it's likely several streets in you area are affected by the same outage.

"We have engineers on the way and they are due to arrive in your local area at 12.30pm.

"Once they arrive, they will get straight to work on investigating the fault and attempt to restore your power."
