DOZENS of motorcyclists were stopped by police during a weekend safety campaign on the North Coast 500.

Officers from the region's road policing unit stopped more then 30 riders to speak to them and offer advice on general riding, anticipation of hazards and corners.

A mix of local and foreign riders were among those stopped with the police's "road safety partners" offering kick stand pad supports, wrist bands and reservoir covers that bore reminders to "ride on the left".

Road Policing Sergeant Chris Donaldson said: ‘We have some of the best roads and routes in Scotland for riding motorcycles on, and scenery to enjoy, so it’s important that people do just that in both a safe and responsible manner.

"The majority of those spoken to this weekend were doing so, but I would still reinforce the need to take your time when riding, and be vigilant for hazards that develop – not just motorcycle riders, but car drivers too.

'Weekends of enhanced group engagement such as these, alongside Rider Refinement North, form part of our strategy to reduce the number of those involved in road traffic collisions which have serious, and sometimes fatal consequences."
