Police have confirmed a man died following an incident on a Wester Ross peak

POLICE are investigating a death following an incident on a Wester Ross peak.

The 55-year-old man died close to the the summit of Meall Nan Peitherin, south of Ullapool late this morning, police said in a statement.

It is understood he had a medical condition, though details are still sketchy.

Northern Constabulary said they were alerted to the incident around 11.45am.

Police were "made aware of a medical matter" from a walking group in that area, sparking a mountain rescue callout, involving Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team.

Members of the MRT located the group. However the man, from Dundee, was found to have died from an apparent medical condition.

A report was submitted to the procurator fiscal detailing the circumstances and the deceased transported to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

Police said no further details regarding the dead man will be released until it has been confirmed that next of kin have been informed.
