Emergency services hailed by Ross-shire and Highland Council leader as details of 'very serious and shocking incident' in Dornie and on Skye gradually emerge

HIGHLAND police have been thanked for bringing a "very serious and shocking incident" under control.

It's understood one person has died and a number of people have been taken to hospital following incidents in the Lochalsh area of Dornie and on Skye.

The Journal is seeking clarification from the police.

Earlier, police said they had been made aware of a woman injured at a property in the Tarskavaig area on Skye shortly before 9am this morning.

They attended two further incidents in Teangue on Skye and Dornie which are being linked.

Police confirmed that a 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incidents.

They said: "At this stage we believe the situation is contained and there is no risk to the wider community."

Enquiries are ongoing.

On behalf of Highland Council, convener Bill Lobban said: “We are thankful to our emergency services colleagues for bringing this very serious and shocking incident to a close.

“We will be providing support to the communities and our partners in every way possible.

“The communities of Skye and Dornie will be shocked and saddened by these incidents and our thoughts are with the individuals affected.”

Local MP Ian Blackford tweeted: "Very concerning news and my thoughts are with all those affected.

"As more details come to light, the response of the emergency services seems to have stopped this incident spreading even further than it did.

"Thank you for the work that you do."
