POLICE have urged the public to make sure to "take care of yourself, your friends and family" as the festive season's revelries begin.

The force has formed part of a special Harm Reduction Response Team in Inverness, which will see foot and cycle patrols out across the Highland capital offering advice and tips on how to keep yourself safe amid the Christmas fun and Covid-19 pandemic.

A spokesman said: "Police Scotland Highland and Islands officers have been working closely with partners this year, meeting the challenges of a very different festive period. Our focus this year has been on reducing the harm caused by drink or drugs and targeting those who try to exploit vulnerable people.

"The Harm Reduction Response Team will be out in #Inverness this weekend along with foot & cycle patrols and our proactive drugs enforcement officers. At this time of year it is traditional for celebrations to begin. Please take care of yourself, your friends and family this weekend and stay safe.

"We will try to be where you need us most by working with partners in a positive and collaborative way."
