THE ORGANISERS of a fun day to support children who have been bereaved and their families will be taking the event to Inverness in March.

After a successful first event which was held in Dingwall last year, Jim Murray – manager at D Gunn Funeral Directors – and his partner Fiona Campbell have confirmed that the Children Fun Day will be back in a new venue.

The initiative, which will be hosted at The Waterside suite at Glen Mhor on Saturday, March 11, will aim to support children who have lost a loved one by offering a safe space and some fun activities.

With princesses and superheroes set to make the day for the children, craft activities and a bouncy castle, the event is in aid of Highland Hospice's special support service for bereaved children, Crocus.

On the day the charity will offer support and guidance for children and carers on how to deal with grief.

Organiser Fiona Campbell said: "The first event went so well and we had a request to run the event in Inverness.

"The response has been great so far and we are expecting around a hundred children to attend on the day.

"We have so many people and businesses to thank for their support – from Simpson's Garden Centre for their kind donation of seed trays and seeds, Deas the Bakers from Dingwall and Caitlin Murray manger of Starbucks Eastgate for donating wee goodies for each child, Deirdre Bews for doing crafts and Crocus, and of course the Glen Mhor Hotel."

Jim Murray said: "The feedback from families was great from the last time and many asked if we would do one again, we thought that it would be a great opportunity to run one in Inverness rather than in Ross-shire so that people that could not make it in November could attend.

"The last event saw people attending coming from as far as Ullapool and Lochcarron!

"It was great to see the children's happy faces. To some, seeing the princesses and Spider man made the day!"

The initiative was conceived in memory of to his colleague and friend Stacey Hull, who sadly passed last year, leaving behind an eight-year-old son and three-week-old baby.

Mr Murray said wants to do all he can to support young ones in a similar situation to her children.

Sales and marketing manager for Glen Mhor, Hayley Kenna, said: "We are delighted to be able to host the event.

"When the enquiry came through, I looked at it and we already work with another charity that is quite close to this type of event, so this spoke directly to us as something we would want to support, it was a no-brainer for us that we wanted this event to take place here."
