Plough match is big success

DOZENS of entrants turned out for an annual ploughing match in Invergordon.

A total of 57 competitors took part in the match organised by Easter Ross Ploughing Association and held at Rosskeen Farm last Saturday.

A spokesman said: “The morning began beautiful and calm and the sunshine stayed with us all day.

“The committee wishes to thank judges, stewards, competitors and the host farmer for supporting this match and making it such a successful day.”

Results:

Class 1 Reversible 2 furrow – 1, James Tait, Castletown; 2, Gavin Robertson, Thurso; 3, Donald Mackay, Rosskeen.

Class 2 Reversible 3, 4 and 5 furrow – 1, Ali Fraser, North Kessock; 2, Andrew Chisholm Jr, Nigg; 3, Derek Austin, Tain.

Class 3 Conventional – 1, Ted Rose, Arabella; 2, Robbie Flett, Watten; 3, Graeme Mackay, Thurso.

Class 4 A Classic Conventional – 1, Fraser MacLennan, Culbokie; 2, Willie Mackay, Wick; 3, Andrew Gammie, Tore.

Class 4A Classic Reversible – 1, Will Duff, Invergordon; 2, Stuart Wilson, Fearn; 3, Julian Cox, Meddat.

Class 5A Vintage Mounted – 1, Michael Sutherland, Thurso; 2, Gerald Macleod, North Kessock ; 3, Iain Bain, Tore.

Class 5B Vintage Trailed – 1, Michael Mackay, Thurso ; 2, Iain MacRae, Munlochy; 3, Donald Fraser, Spean Bridge.

Class 6 Juniors – 1, Alistair Maciver, Munlochy; 2, Angus Mackay, Alness; 3, Alexander Campbell, Wick.

Class 8 Demonstrators – 1, Scot JCB, Muir of Ord.
