A Plockton woman "taught herself to walk again" after being immobilised to raise money for Palestinian children to be able to walk again too.

Plockton local, Jane Buckley (86), was immobilised for nearly a year and is now teaching herself to walk again with the challenge of covering 100km throughout March. Jane took on the colossal challenge after seeing how many Palestinian children have lost limbs in the tragic Gaza conflict. She believes they deserve to recover and walk again too.

She said: "We have all been shocked by the news of babies and children losing limbs in the disasters in Gaza. They need painkillers and prosthetics. I am so glad to recover the use of my own limbs. My challenge is to complete 100 kilometres by the end of March, so that these youngsters who are only at the beginning of their lives, will be able to walk again too."

Jane completed her original fundraising target of £700 within just 36 hours of launching her challenge. At the time of writing, her fundraising total has soared past £1000. Her GoFundMe page will be open for donations until March 31, by which time she intends to have completed her 100km, re-learning how to walk in the process.

The charity which funds will go to is Medical Aid for Palestinians, which is a British charity that offers medical services in the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon, and advocates for Palestinians' rights to health and dignity.

Jane continued: "So far I've done 55km, and I welcome any locals who see me out and about in Plockton to join in for a few minutes, and hear about the latest developments. A huge thank you to everyone who has responded to the fundraiser so quickly!"
