A POPULAR hall looks set for a sizeable extension after plans were lodged with Highland Council.

A lack of facilities and space in St Clement’s Church Hall in Dingwall has prompted the move to build an extension onto the existing building.

The hall is used as an ancillary building to St Clement’s Parish Church, about 70m away, but it now needs more room to undertake the activities of a church hall such as Sunday schools, soup lunches and its continuing growth in the local community.

Internal alterations are also proposed to give a larger kitchen/servery and much improved toilet facilities.

A design statement from Reynolds Architecture said: “With these much-needed upgrades, the parish will be left with a facility fit for purpose both within the church and use for the wider public.”

Five design options were drawn up, with the one favoured after meetings between St Clement’s Church and council planners going forward with the application which will be considered in due course.

The architects state: “The detailed design has been formulated to ensure that the development respects the character of the site and its surroundings.

“The choice of materials and detailed elements have been developed to ensure a high-quality response to the local environment,” they added.
