PLANS are being put in place to ensure a post office service in a Wester Ross village continues after a community hub convenience store closes at the end of next month.
As previously reported, Parlett’s Convenience Store in Ullapool is closing at the end of November, with unmanageable energy bills one of the major reasons cited.
That had led to fears for the future of the Post Office counter currently housed within the Shore Street store.
However, Heather Parlett has recently announced that the post office will temporarily be moved to a ‘Post Office on wheels’ at the Ullapool Village Hall on Market Street until the service can be taken on permanently. The dates are yet to be finalised.
A Post Office spokeswoman said: “Ullapool is closing at the end of November. This gives us a few extra weeks to finalise our plans for a temporary solution to maintain service to the community, which will be at the village hall.
“The current postmistress will operate this service. We are working hard to introduce this temporary service as close to the date of the current branch closure as possible.”

A Post Office spokeswoman said:"Ullapool is closing at the end of November, not October.
