THE Port of Cromarty Firth celebrated the launch of its new pilot boat, the Dalmore, with its first official dedication ceremony.
This latest addition to the port’s fleet, a brand new £600,000 custom-built Interceptor 48 pilot boat, is the first new boat the port has invested in.
The celebrations included a blessing from local clergy using whisky provided by the vessel’s namesake, Dalmore Distillery.
Invergordon RNLI donated a cake to commemorate the special occasion.
Bob Buskie, chief executive of the Port of Cromarty Firth, said: “We were delighted to hold our very first dedication ceremony.
“It was a very special day for the port, and I would like to thank our guests for sharing this occasion with us and The Dalmore Distillery for sponsoring the event.
“I hope attendees enjoyed the celebrations and found the chance to experience the Dalmore first-hand exciting.”
Dalmore Distillery ambassador Shauna Jennens said: “We’re delighted to hear that the Port of Cromarty Firth’s new pilot boat has paid homage to the Dalmore.
“The distillery has stood here for 180 years, so working closely with our friends at the Port to launch the boat has been a pleasure.
“The work of the port team is of great importance to the area, and we look forward to seeing the boat put to good use as it safely guides ships entering the Cromarty Firth.”
The Dalmore was made by expert boat builders Safehaven Marine in County Cork, Ireland, and will be used to transport the port’s skilled maritime pilots, who safely guide the ships that come into the Cromarty Firth.
