IT was spud heaven for anyone who loves a bit of variety in their tatties.

More than 400 people came through the doors of North Kessock Hall for Saturday's Potato Day with food shortages and concerns over spiralling costs spurring greater interest.

Many were attracted by the chance to buy and try growing all sorts of interesting varieties and with growing more of their own food generally.

A seed swap stall and gardening advice helped. Two competitions were enjoyed by the many children who came along.

The event was organised by a team of seven volunteers, co-ordinated by Julie Gibson, with 20 others also helping on the day.

Julie said: “It was great to see the day go so smoothly – it was a credit to all the hard work put in by volunteers on the day and beforehand – from ordering the tatties and organising publicity to manhandling the bags into the hall, dealing with enquiries at the different stands, providing refreshments and taking the sales money.’’
