The teams working tirelessly to clear a major Highland trunk road of fallen trees have released pictures highlighting the scale of the task they faced overnight into Thursday.

Bear Scotland has tweeted photos of just some of the trees which fell on the A82 between Fort Augustus and Invergarry during the height of Storm Gerrit on Wednesday.

At the time of writing, shortly after midday on Thursday, Traffic Scotland confirmed the road between Spean Bridge and Invermoriston was still closed to all traffic in both directions – having first closed to vehicles almost a day earlier.

And Bear Scotland, which manages the Highlands' trunk roads, has now released images of just some of the trees they have been having to clear from the road.

It comes as clean-up operations continue across the region, with ScotRail services in the north all still cancelled while track checks are made.

Almost 8000 homes across Scotland were also still without power at 11am, of which almost 800 wee located in the Highland Council area.
