Young patients at a local children’s ward have scored a special visit from Ross County football heroes.

The 10 players visited wards and handed out gifts to children and young people spending time in hospital when other youngsters are out and about enjoying Christmas treats and special events.

It followed a similar visit from rival stars from Inverness Caley Thistle.

Connor Randall, Ben Purrington, Jack Baldwin, Kyle Turner, Yan Dhanda, Josh Sims, Max Sheaf, Simon Murray, Jay Henderson and Jordan White all took time out from their schedule on Monday as part of The Archie Foundation’s Advent Calendar campaign.

The campaign began on December 1 and ensures children, families and staff at the hospital benefit from a huge range of special treats and exciting activities and experiences.

Zoe Grant, the Highlands and Islands regional fundraising officer at The Archie Foundation, said: “Christmas is a busy time of year, and for the babies, children and families supported by The Archie Foundation, it can be a really tough time, especially if they are in hospital during the festive season.

“It’s easy for the children to feel like they are missing out. They know that siblings and friends are likely to be enjoying school shows and Christmas parties.

“That’s why things like the visit from the Ross County players are so special.

“We really appreciate the players taking the time to visit the Highland Children’s Unit to spread some festive cheer.

“It was great to see the excitement on the children’s faces.”

Ross County’s chief executive officer, Steven Ferguson, said: “Christmas can be a tough time for people, especially if circumstances dictate that they can’t take part in the events and excitement in the build-up.

“A small thing like a visit from our players is something we hope can help make times like this easier for the children and their families.

“We hope that this visit has helped to put a smile on the faces and bring some festive cheer to all those in the ward.”

Local businesses have also been hugely supportive, sponsoring activities as well as funding services as part of the advent calendar campaign.

This year, 14 companies and organisations have funded activities and vital services the charity offers, ensuring they can continue in 2024.

The Archie Foundation exists to transform experiences and outcomes in healthcare and bereavement for babies, children and families across North Scotland, including Inverness, Aberdeen, Elgin and Dundee.

The charity’s vision is that all children in the region will have equal access to world-class healthcare and bereavement support, delivered in a child-appropriate environment and manner.
