This year's Muir of Ord Gala kicked off at the weekend and runs through until Sunday.

More than 1500 people attended the fete that kicked off Gala week in Muir of Ord on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the event in the Ross village said: "We opened this year’s events with the Gala Fete on the 15th with the arrival of the Royal Party being piped into the main gala arena, by the Sutherland Caledonian Pipe Band.

"Gala Queen Kara Godwin was duly crowned, attended by Gala Princess Zara McKay, moving straight onto the children’s fancy dress competition held in memory of Amy Tuach, which had approximately 30 entries for the three age categories.

"The audience were then treated to the first of two excellent highly informative displays by Emily, from Elite Falconry, before leading onto 12 graceful Highland Dance routines performed by Marion’s young proteges.

"Katy-Louise from Trapeze provided more children’s entertainment before the pipe band led the 10 “It’s a Knockout Teams” into their specifically designed arena.

"We all enjoyed a great spectacle of fun-filled endurance before the heavens decided to open and drench the competitors and the onlooking enthusiastic audience.

"However, the torrential rain did not dampen the competitors’ spirit as they continued to complete the course.

"Once the rain abated after an hour of extremely heavy rain we finished off the fete with a second demonstration from Elite Falconry.
