NC500 record hopeful Mark Beaumont is on track to set a new NC500 record.

The long-distance cyclist is powering round the 516-mile tourism route in the hope of beating the record set by Durness native Robbie Mitchell last year.

Information posted on social media showed him to be at Helmsdale around 8am this morning - his support crew had said he was at 'Drumbeg', but it now thought it was Dunbeath.

A social media user said: "He should be nearing Inverness pretty soon, probably breaking the record by an hour or so."
