HUNDREDS of daredevils took the plunge from Kessock Bridge as part of Highland Hospice’s first fundraising event in 19 months.

More than 430 people took part in the Kessock Bridge abseil last Friday and Saturday raising a remarkable £150,000 for the charity.

Fundraiser Emma Nicol said abseilers of all ages took the challenge, travelling from all over.

She said: “We had some abseilers who were visually impaired, as well as one of the hospice’s wellbeing group patients. This really was an all-inclusive event.”

It took place over the car park near the Kessock RNLI station.

Lifeboat operations manager Paul Thomas said: “We are delighted to learn that the event raised such an incredible amount for the Highland Hospice and know that these funds make such a massive difference.

“We are very grateful for the charity places they provided us with to raise funds for our own lifesaving work at sea, and proud of the crew and family who took part in the event on our behalf.”

Crew member Lindsey Randall took part and managed to rope in her mum and a friend, raising more than £600 between them.

Lindsay said: “I know first-hand what it takes to train and equip the lifeboat volunteers to be safe to respond in an emergency at sea.

“This was a perfect opportunity to contribute towards these costs, especially as the RNLI is a charity.

“I would definitely be up for doing it again next year!”
