PICTURES: Heavy snow makes for challenging conditions on Ross-shire roads as motorists urged to take care

PHOTOS taken in Ross-shire earlier today reveal the challenging conditions developing on parts of the county's road network.
Earlier, BEAR Scotland – which manages and maintains the North West Trunk Road Unit on behalf of Transport Scotland – warned: "Snowfall around the A835 and A9 is beginning to fall thick and fast around the NW Network. Please drive to conditions."
Two lorries temporarily got into difficulties on the A835 as gritting teams worked to treat roads across the network.

The Met Office yesterday issued a weather warning which essentially extends until Wednesday morning. It flags the possibility of disruption causes by snow and ice.
The Yellow warning covering the Highlands kicked in at 2pm today and states:
Snow showers and icy stretches may bring some disruption.
Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.
Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
