Forestry and Land Scotland publishes Ross-shire and Highland beauty spot images alongside messages to adhere to Covid-19 coronavirus lockdown measures; pleads to people to adhere to restrictions on non-essential travel with reminder that sites will still be there when the pandemic is finally over

A NATIONAL forestry body has published a series of beautiful pictures from its Highland sites – alongside a spirit-uplifting lockdown message.

Forestry and Land Scotland has moved to remind those tempted to ignore official lockdown rules that they should not make any non-essential road journeys.

And to accompany its plea it has published a series of stirring landscapes with the simple message – they'll still be here when Covid-19 is over.

It has reminded people that the closer they adhere to the lockdown the earlier the pandemic will be brought under control and the earlier travel restrictions will ultimately be lifted.

A spokesman said: "As we all continue to do what we can in the national fight against Covid-19, the Easter weekend is fast approaching.

"And whilst we would normally be encouraging your visits to enjoy all our forests and land have to offer, we wanted to remind you of the government’s vital ongoing restrictions on travel.

"Whilst this is an inconvenience for many of us, consider this is a temporary and minor inconvenience but a major contribution to the fight against coronavirus, helping to both slow the spread of the disease and to support our NHS.

"No doubt even with lots of inventive ways of passing the time and keeping everyone entertained as we look to keep ourselves and our families safe over Easter, you will look for some fresh air and perhaps a moment of calming silence.

"So when you do venture out for your daily exercise, stay local (follow Scottish Government advice and don’t drive) – you’re more than welcome to visit one of our local forests that you can get to on foot, by bike, or by wheelchair. Just remember to follow social distancing guidelines.

"And whilst you are perhaps not able to get out and about to your usual haunts at the moment, we wanted to reassure you that our forests and land will be here to welcome you back when it’s safe to do so. Meantime here’s views from our image library…"
