PICTURES: Fishing season opener for River Beauly with special Glen Ord toast as first cast is made

There was a very good turn out for Beauly Angling Club’s ceremony to celebrate the River Beauly opening for the angling season.

A sizeable gathering of club members, family and friends were led down to the banks of the River Beauly by piper Liam Bolger where committee member Jim Braithwaite gave the address.

He commended Yorky and Karl Brocklehurst for their work with junior members teaching, organising coaching days and also in getting donations from family and friends to help fund junior fishing and casting sessions.

Mr Braithwaite proposed the toast and cast a dram of The Singleton kindly donated by the nearby Ord Distillery on the water.

Frank Durdle, a previous long-standing president of the club, cast the first official line of the season and everyone enjoyed warm sausage rolls, bread pudding and a nip of whisky around the fishing hut on the Beauly River, the use of which the club thanked Beauly Fishings Co for.

Although only about 15 miles long, the River Beauly is one of the top salmon rivers and most picturesque in the Highlands, starting at Struy and confluence of River Farrar and the River Glass.
