PEOPLE across Ross-shire joined others around the world paying final respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II, laid to rest this week at a state funeral.

A spine-tingling lone piper tribute on Sunday evening saw Alan Hasson play the Immortal Memory outside the council offices in Dingwall – a simple ceremony repeated in communities across the Highlands.

The period of national mourning leading up to Monday’s funeral allowed people to share their memories of a Queen who had ruled for 70 years.

Julia Macleod shared a photo she took of the Queen at Dingwall Academy in 1964. She recalled: “I remember standing on the long tree-lined driveway up to the school along with hundreds of other pupils. There was a huge buzz of anticipation as we awaited the arrival of the Royal car passing on its way to the school. The photo of the Queen was one of the first photos I ever took!”
