WORLD-renowned cook and food writer Lady Claire Macdonald was the guest speaker at a dinner which raised thousands of pounds for a Highland charity.

The event, at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness, was in support of the Haven Appeal which aims to develop Scotland’s first multi-purpose centre for children and young people with severe learning disabilities.

The final total still has to be confirmed but is about £8000.

Lady Claire and her husband, Lord Godfrey, ran the hotel and restaurant, Kinloch Lodge, on the Isle of Skye.

The couple took part in a Mr and Mrs contest, competing against appeal chairman David Sutherland and his wife, Jean, Inverness Caledonian Thistle goalkeeper, Mark Ridgers and his wife, Emma, and winners Robbie and Karen Halkett, pastors of Inverness Christian Fellowship.

MC for the evening was Ross-shire-based Rona Matheson, the appeal’s community fundraiser.

Elsie Normington, founder of the Elsie Normington Foundation, also spoke about the centre set to be built at Smithton.
