THE Black Isle branch of a major cancer charity has teed up a remarkable £20,000 boost for ongoing research work after staging a successful and well-supported golf event.

The Black Isle branch of Cancer Research UK event at Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club attracted 17 teams to play a four-ball tournament for the cause, chipping in a remarkable £20,430 to the cause in total.

Despite all the disruption caused by the pandemic, the event surpassed all expectations.

Anne Maciver of the charity's Black Isle branch said: "I think everyone was happy to have a day out and the weather was beautiful. It actually raised a bit more than the last event, which was incredible really. Thanks go to everyone who put a lot of effort into putting it on and to those who entered teams. Thanks to everyone who contributed in any way. We thought we might be lucky to get 12 teams so this was great."

Tentative plans are now being put in place to stage the next event on May 13, 2022.
