RESIDENTS in the Black Isle had the chance to sample some fine cheese and wines as well as helping the people of Ukraine at the same time.
The event was held at the Old Brewery in Cromarty on Friday and the proceeds will be donated to the DEC Ukraine appeal.
It was organised by Barbara and Richard Davis, a retired couple from the Black Isle, who said the event was a great success – so far they have raised £750 via an online appeal, surpassing the £500 target.
Guests were asked for a minimum donation of £20 and spaces were limited to 20 people who they described as "friends from Cromarty".
They received a donation of 15 wines for the evening – six white, six red, one rose, one sweet white and one fizzy. The Cromarty Arts Trust donated space for the event and The Cheese House gave the cheese.
Mrs Davis said: "We have done charity fundraising wine tastings before and they have successfully raised funds. The money will go directly to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal."
She said they wanted to raise the funds because there was currently a great need in Ukraine and lots of people were currently looking for ways they could help.
"We have another wine tasting planned in May raising funds for Living Waters Adopt-a-Child in Inverness," she added.
"Thanks to the Cromarty Arts Trust for donating the let of the room in the Old Brewery, thanks to Jon and Emmy at The Cheese House for donating cheese for the evening, and thanks to Gillian and Dave for getting people involved in Cromarty."
