PICTURES: Beauly firm makes waves for Highland charities
When this year’s coast-to-coast Highland Cross duathlon was cancelled because of the Covid-19 crisis, many worthy causes that regularly benefit from the fundraiser were left high and dry.
Beauly-based firm Simpson Builders, however, has now done its bit to help by taking the plunge at Loch Ness.
Normally staunch supporters of the event – a 50-mile race on foot and bike that has raised more than £5.3 million for deserving causes since 1983 – staff staged their own sponsored swim instead last weekend.
Company director Gordon Simpson said: “We normally take part in the Highland Cross, so when this year’s was cancelled we felt we still wanted to complete a challenge with all funds raised going to the Highland Cross charities.”
He was joined in the water by construction manager Andrew Philips, quantity surveyor Mark McCann, father-in-law Alistair MacGregor and Mr MacGregor’s daughter Aileen-Anne as well as Suli the dog.
Aiming to raise £1500, they in fact received donations totalling more than double that.
