A NEW memorial was unveiled in an Easter Ross town yesterday during a heartfelt ceremony.
People braved the rain to attend the official opening of the new war memorial and garden of remembrance in Alness on time for Remembrance Day.
The official opening was carried out by His Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty, Mrs Joanie Whiteford after a service delivered by Rev Robert Adair.
The monument is placed at the back of the original war memorial. The latter, dating back more than a century, saw several names being worn off with time, becoming unreadable.
Member of Alness Community Council and organiser, Ian Burnett, said there was a very good atmosphere on the day.
He said: "It was very well attended by the local community, we had children from the local primary school and Alness academy coming over during the day.
"It took around one year for us to have the new memorial ready, with some delays in delivery of materials, but we are very happy that it's now there.
"Me and my wife have also donated a memorial bench to the Heritage Centre for people to sit down and be able to sit and reflect next to the remembrance garden."
The new memorial was funded through funding the Community Council obtained through Novar Wind Farm.
Mr Burnett added: "The memorial will be now visible and accessible to everyone and anyone looking back in history will be able to find the names."
