The most popular dance contest in the Highlands returned with great acclaim at the Inverness Ice Centre last night.
With a week of events culminating in Saturday’s grand finale, Strictly Inverness is expected to have raised around £320,000 for the organising charities – the Highland Hospice and the Inverness Ice Centre.
After some wonderful performances put in by all finalists, giving a hard time to the judges on the night, the winners of this year’s competition were Shyreen Fyffe and Jason Kelman.
The duo, who raised £18,700 in aid of the Highland Hospice and Inverness Ice Centre through their fundraising efforts were stunned by the announcement.
“It’s the most amazing feeling,” Shyreen said.
“When my mum was at the hospice, in 2021, I said to her that I would do Strictly. So this one is for my mum.
“I think she would be really proud!”
Jason said: “It’s literally unbelievable. Two weeks ago we were saying that if we danced well enough we might have gotten through to the final.
“It’s surreal, it’s unbelievable!”
Second place was for Rachel Wood and Reece Ross, and third spot went to Beth Saunders and dance partner Darryl Geegan.
BBC Strictly Giovanni Pernice, who was the guest judge for the night, commented: “It’s been fantastic. I think the competition has been great and it’s so good to see it all go to a good cause.”
