The A82 was closed in the heart of the Highland capital on Thursday afternoon after a major police response to a "disturbance" in a nearby street.

A section of Kenneth Street shortly before the Telford Street roundabout was closed and motorists were being diverted elsewhere after police responded to an incident in nearby Muirtown Street at 11.50am.

A heavy police presence was seen at the site, with at least six police cars and several officers seen to be present in Kenneth Street alone a short time ago.

Bear Scotland, which maintains the A82, of which Kenneth Street is a part, had a vehicle on site warning motorists of the road closure.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it had also sent three appliances to the site. These could be seen parked up in Muirtown Street at the time of writing, with a number of personnel spotted nearby.

A police spokesperson said: "Around 11.50am on Thursday we were called to a report of a disturbance in the Muirtown Street area of Inverness.

"Emergency services are in attendance."

Officers added that the incident was in response to "concern for a person", but no further information was immediately available.

In an earlier update, officers had posted online that the Scottish Ambulance Service were also in attendance, and at least one ambulance has been seen in the immediate area.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it had sent three appliances to the scene, which can be seen here in Muirtown Street.
