PARTICIPANTS in a Black Isle library's Harry Potter event agreed as one that it was just magic.

Fortrose Library has responded to the enduring appeal of the J.K. Rowling series with a string of well-received atmospheric events that taps the enthusiasm of generations of Potter fans.

Although an outdoor scavenger hunt around Fortrose, Avoch, Rosemarkie and Cromarty was scrambled together last year to overcome Covid-19 restrictions, all agreed it was great to be back indoors for the first event of its kind since February 2020.

Librarian Sya Bruce explained: "Our theme this year was a magical journey through the Forbidden Forest and to this end we had multiple trees, our very own Patronus and a rather scary dementor. "The twenty children in attendance made their own Monster Book of Monsters with library assistant, Jennifer Macleod and learned how to track mythical beasts with Highlife Highland countryside ranger, Marcia Rae.

"They then sat down for a reading from Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone which had both the children and adults quite transfixed."

Feedback was terrific and included the following:

"The amount of love and effort the staff put in is obvious"

"It was fabulous - well worth coming over the bridge from Inverness for"

"I loved the evening! It was so fun! Please make one next year! I love the library!"

"I loved it and when I get home I'm going to ask mum if she can read some"

"The night was a magical blast! I have had an amazing time!"

Ms Bruce said: "I'd like to stress that this event could not have happened without the loan of multiple Christmas trees, a beautiful deer, multiple props and the time and effort of members of the Black Isle community as well as our HLH partners in the Countryside Rangers and Inverness Museum and Art Gallery – we were overwhelmed with the kindness and willingness to help us stage our comeback Harry Potter event and look forward to working more with our wonderful community over the rest of 2022."
