Dingwall Mart sale reveals ‘phenomenal demand’ for power

DINGWALL and Highland Marts sold 628 prime sheep and 13 cattle at a sale reflecting a “seriously short supply” of hoggs and “phenomenal demand” for ewes.

Prime bullocks (2) averaged 295.1p per kg and sold to 300.0p per kg and £1,875.00 gross for a 625kg Limousin Cross from Shoreton Farms, Culbokie selling to John. M. Munro (Butchers) Ltd, Dingwall.

Prime Heifers (6) averaged 299.2p per kg and sold to 303.0p per kg for a 595kg Limousin Cross from Shoreton Farms, Culbokie and £1,857.30 gross for a 615kg Limousin Cross also from Shoreton Farms, Culbokie selling to John. M. Munro (Butchers), Dingwall.

Feeding Sheep (154) sold to £220 gross.

New Season Lambs (6) averaged 396.0p and sold to 396.0p and £204 gross for a pen of Suffolks from Glendonan, Knockfarrel.

Old Season Lambs (468) averaged 350.4p per kg and sold to 402.0p per kg for a pen of 41kg Beltex from Upperton, Glenurquhart and £198 gross for a pen of 57kg Charollais Crosses from Hillhead, Glen of Newmill.

OSL SQQ Lambs (154) averaged 357.0p per kg.

Feeding Sheep (154) sold to £220 gross for a Charollais Cross Ewe from Torgorm, Conon Bridge.

The verdict: “Hogg numbers were in serious short supply as many vendors are coming to the end of their 2024 crop. Trade was dearer for meat, whilst the leaner end are starting to meet more resistance.

“Ewe trade keeps on climbing every week, as the smaller and leaner they are the dearer they look. Power was in short supply but what was here met a phenomenal enquiry.”
