Highland Liberal Democrats want people power to help speed up a plan for dualling of the A9.

Earlier this week, Scottish Government admitted the aim to complete the road project by 2025 was unachievable.

A range of factors were cited along with a commitment to carry it out with a new plan to be revealed in autumn.

But Highland Lib Dems want more urgency.

They state: "The SNP have finally done what we all knew was inevitable, and announced they will miss their own deadline of 2025 for dualling the A9.

"They have had 15 years in government to get this done, and progress has been painfully slow.

"The road continues to be unfit for purpose, crashes and deaths continue to mount, and the whole of the Highlands suffers from the SNP's decade-and-a-half of inaction.

"We are calling for the SNP government to urgently announce their revised timetable for the completion of A9 dualling; provide adequate funding to make sure they don't miss yet another deadline on the A9; and announce a proper plan for the upgrading of the A9 north of Inverness which has so far been neglected."
