Percy the peacock is the favourite of some – but not all – in Cawdor.

A wayward peacock who ruffled the feathers of a number of locals in Cawdor earlier this year is set to stay put in the village regardless.

Cawdor and West Nairnshire Community Council heard a number of complaints from some residents about the antisocial behaviour of Percy, a well-known local personality who was a big attraction for visitors to the Cawdor Tavern, one of his favourite haunts.

Some people had raised objections to his dawn chorus of raucous cries, with gardeners upset by his apparently scratching in their flowerbeds.

It had been suggested that Percy could be rehomed with a female in a more remote part of Nairnshire, but after a brief departure – believed to be to the Galcantray area – Percy has now returned to his regular stamping ground.

Community council secretary Lizzie Rose said: "He’s back to stay now.

"There was a lot of opposition voiced when the idea to rehome him was raised at the community council.

"I think he must have got wind of it, and I think most people are glad to have him back."
