A BARMAID was toasting her own good fortune after hitting the jackpot in Ross County FC's Staggie Lottery draw.

Penny Innes struck it lucky after the longest winless run in the Dingwall-based club's history

The top £10,000 prize went to Penny, who works at the Belgrave Arms Hotel in Helmsdale.

The good news was perfectly timed for Penny, as on Thursday last week she completed her HNC in Hospitality at the North Highland College in Dornoch.

Penny said: “Of course I’m delighted to have won the £10,000 jackpot – I’ve had to work hard to get myself through college but my Mum and Dad have been really supportive so I’m going to make sure that they’re the first people to benefit from my good fortune.”

Penny wasn’t the only beneficiary though, as local lottery agent Iain Sutherland, who sold her the winning ticket in the Belgrave, picks up the agent’s bonus prize of £200.

The good news for those who missed out on the five-figure sum is that due to the exceptionally long run of 16 weeks at the maximum jackpot, the roll over fund means that instead of the usual £2,000 starting prize, the jackpot for the next draw is £9,500.
