AN animal lover spent the best part of a year knitting 27 beautiful blankets to the Easter Ross branch of a charity caring for cats.

Tain and District Cats Protection branch this week voiced its thanks to Mrs Romey Mackay who crafted the unique multi-coloured blankets.

The Christmas present really is the gift that keeps on giving after lucky cats in its care find their forever homes.

The group explained: "When knitted blankets are donated to us, they are used by the cats in our care and when they have been offered a home, we always give away with them whichever blanket the cat has been using at the time. This gives them a familiar scent to take with them, when entering a new home for the first time and into unfamiliar surroundings.

"We would like to wish Romey and her daughter Shell Mackay who drove her mother down in horrible road conditions yesterday, a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy 2024 - from all at Tain & District Branch."
