MEMBERS of a Ross-shire mountain rescue team who train to react to every possible scenario on the hills were this week tasked with coming to the aid of an injured dog.

On Wednesday at around 1pm, Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team was tasked by Police Scotland to assist two walkers on the Fisherfield group of Munros in Wester Ross and a dog belonging to one of the pair.

The English pointer, named Cooper, cut her paw very badly on rocks and her companions thought that she might have to be stretchered out. However luckily she was able to hobble out under her own steam.

She had sustained the injury while crossing rocky terrain during blustery conditions between the Munros Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair and Beinn a' Chlaideimh.

Fifteen team members attended and about 4pm the walkers and the dog were located safely.

Cooper, her owner and his companion, were evacuated from the area by 4x4 vehicle.

Team members stood down about 8.30pm.

It had been a busy few days for the team which on Sunday was called to help three fishermen stranded by rising flood water on the south side of Loch Squod. The team said later: "After we were assisted by a local father and son the three fishermen were brought back to the roadside safe and well if a little cold and damp."

On Tuesday afternoon the team was involved in a multi agency call-out at Flowerdale for a man who had fallen off the path just above the waterfall on steep ground.

The multi-agency team was able to treat, package and stretcher the casualty to the waiting helmed helicopter to be flown direct to Raigmore .
