PADDLEBOARDERS are being urged to ensure they're aware of weather and tidal conditions and to take additional precautions following an alert in Ross-shire.

Reports of paddleboarders in difficulty on the Black Isle prompted the launch of a lifeboat in Invergordon yesterday.

The 11:38am alarm sparked the launch of RNLI Invergordon's Agnes AP Barr up a blustery Cromarty Firth towards Rosemarkie Bay.

The volunteer crew of six launched the Shannon-class Lifeboat Agnes AP Barr and made best speed up the blustery Cromarty Firth to the initial location to begin a search for the two people reported in distress.

As the crew made way up the Firth, the stand down request came through from the UK Coastguard operations room in Aberdeen as the paddleboarders made it to shore safely.

The crew then made their back to their berth where the lifeboat was refuelled, washed down and made ready for the next service call out by 12:30pm.

RNLI Invergordon duty coxswain Neil Ross said: “Whilst this was a successful outcome, we ask can those who are taking for the water, please familiarise themselves with weather conditions, tidal status where applicable and ensure they take precautions such as always wearing a lifejacket or buoyancy aid and ensure you have a method of calling for help if required.”
