Over 4000 children will be provided with £50 worth of gifts each this Christmas, thanks to an annual appeal.

The MFR Cash for Kids Mission Christmas appeal has had an incredible response from the public donating gifts and money, in a year that has seen more families reach out to the charity than in previous years.

Lauren Macinnes, from Cash for Kids said: "We are still taking applications off our waiting list and we've seen a lot more families come to us as the need is greater this year.

"People have been amazing and we've been able to support over 4000 children with gifts."

Helen Macpherson has volunteered with the charity for over 40 years has been blown away by people's response to the appeal.

She said: "People have been amazing - companies and people dropping off trolleys of presents and money. You have people also coming in with one gift or five pounds which is amazing.

"I thought it would have been a lot harder for people to donate this year, but for some reason they've been so kind and have just been going the length. A lot of people collect the items every week or during the year when they see an offer on and they come in with the gifts - they are just so kind.

"Thanks to everybody who has helped! The nice thing is that a few of the girls that came in with the items said they would love to volunteer next year and some I had time to show into the warehouse and they were just overwhelmed by it all. It's just a lovely thought to think they are interested in helping.

"All the volunteers are amazing. Fiona and Morag are here full time and the job they do is unreal!"

The appeal is now closed for gifts but donations of money can still be given online.
