Having a whale of a time on Port walk

I really enjoyed your description of the loop past the lighthouse (Active Outdoors: Lighting the way on walk to the edge, 3/2/23). I have never completed the whole loop, but you have inspired me.

However, somehow you managed to miss the humongous baby sperm whale skull. It is near the top of the beach halfway between Portmahomack and the lighthouse.

I have attached a picture of me beside it. It would have made a really interesting paragraph.

The locals all know about it as it is a recent arrival – 2017.

Do we have priorities straight on potholes?

Many people will be surprised to learn from the local authority umbrella group Cosla that road repairs are non-statutory services.

The devious Scottish government said it was up to the local authorities how they spent their budgets. So the public and businesses pay income taxes, VAT, council tax, NIC contributions, car tax, fuel duty, death duties, capital gains and much more yet are denied decent roads.

The Scottish government has wasted millions on vanity projects. Local authorities are not blameless. Giving free electricity to rich electric vehicle owners has cost millions and it cost one council £260,000.

The closure of The Ironworks venue to make way for an hotel, sparked an outpouring of emotion and soul-searching amongst music fans.

“Inverness is turning into a ghost town of closed shops and venues in front of our eyes. Online shopping did it. That’s my theory. All we’ll have left is vape shops and charity shops. What will we have to offer the tourists who visit??” – Keeley Tarff

“It’s the world we live in, like it or not. If someone owns property, they’re allowed to sell it to whomever they wish.” – Lorraine Mann
