Confirmed cases of coronavirus in NHS Highland area now stand at 335 after additional case overnight; minor Covid-19 increase followed reports of a positive test among the public on Skye; across Scotland there have been 14,969 positive tests

ONE new case of Covid-19 has been reported in the Highlands in the past 24 hours.

The case, reported to be a member of the general public on Skye, takes the total number of positive tests for the virus in the NHS Highland area to 335.

The new case came against a backdrop of 113 new positive tests across Scotland since yesterday – taking the country's total number of confirmed cases to 14,969. The true number of infections is believed to be much higher.

A further 24 deaths have been recorded across Scotland among those who tested positive for the virus, to take the total to 2245.

But the number of people receiving hospital treatment for confirmed Covid-19 fell again to 874 – down 35 from yesterday.

In the Highlands there were 12 patients receiving treatment in hospital for the virus at midnight last night.

Elsewhere in the far north, there were no new cases of the virus confirmed in Orkney, Shetland and Eileanan Siar.

In NHS Grampian there were five further positive tests for the coronavirus, to take its tally to 1223. The number of people receiving treatment in its hospitals fell from 72 to 68, of whom six were in intensive care.

And there were nine fresh cases of the virus recorded in NHS Tayside, to bring its total to 1641. Hospitalised cases continued to fall though, dropping five to 15 since yesterday.
