There has been one new death registered in the NHS Highland area from either confirmed or suspected Covid-19 in the past week.

There had been no new deaths registered in the previous two weeks.

That means the current death toll in the health board area now stands at 114.

Each Wednesday the National Records of Scotland (NRS) issues numbers of cases where Covid-19 has been mentioned on a death certificate.

The latest death took place in a care home, taking the total number of Highland deaths in such a setting to 38.

There have been 15 deaths at home within the region and 61 in hospital.

The latest death occurred within the smaller Highland Council area, taking the total death toll there to 50 and increasing the number of deaths within care homes in the local authority area to 15.

Deaths to have occurred at home remain at seven and in hospital at 28.

Scotland as a whole has seen a rise in the total number of Covid-19 deaths of 35 in the past week, bringing the total to 4155.

This is 14 fewer deaths than last week and now makes it the ninth week in a row that the death rate has fallen.
