Sheriff Ian Cruickshank heard the case at Inverness Sheriff Court.

An off-duty policeman heard strange loud banging in the street and went to investigate.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard he saw a vehicle being driven erratically with two burst tyres, and it was swerving about the road.

The officer went over to speak to the driver in Ness Walk, Fortrose and fiscal depute Karen Poke told Sheriff Ian Cruickshank that 52-year-old Brian Younger admitted he had been drinking.

Police were contacted and a subsequent urine test revealed that Younger, of Oliphant Way, Kirkcaldy had 244mgs of alcohol in his system when the legal limit is 67mgs.

The court heard that he was unable to provide a breath test due to Covid and a bout of pneumonia.

Younger pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol on December 7, 2021 and was fined £900. He was also banned from driving for 16 months but was certified as suitable for a drink-drive rehabilitation course. If he successfully completes it at his own cost, he will get a four-month discount on his ban.
